April 2021’s Movie Watch List with Juicy Stats

Well, April was a really slow month for movies. This is mostly due to me getting sick (besides the odd allergy symptom) for the first time since this pandemic started. Last Monday I got my first shot of the Covid-19 vaccine and its side effects put me out of commission for almost a week. I couldn’t even move on Tuesday without major effort. But, I’m all good now and the experience was still way better than getting Covid!

Anyway, I only managed to get 23 films in me, 17 of which I had not seen before. BUT… I enjoyed most of them! I got to see some great films with Sarah as we wrapped up our march towards The Oscars. There were only two stinkers out of the lot and I even managed to cross a movie off of the ol’ bucket list. Not bad for an “off” month!

Baseball time!
These are the “batting stats” compiled for the FIRST TIME watches.  I give each movie a rating out of 5.  4.5 and up are home runs, 4s to 2.5s are hits, 2 and lower are field outs, an 0.5 (did not finish) is a Strike Out.  This tells me how well of a job I’m doing at picking which movies to watch.

Good Movie Average:  15/17 – .882 (Last month: .777)
Home Runs: 3
A Shaun of the Sheep Movie: Farmaggedon
Quo Vadis, Aida? (Where are you, Aida?)
What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?
Strikeouts: 2
Over The Moon (To be fair to Over The Moon, I’m sure it is a fine movie for kids. Just not for me.)

Most Fun First Time Watch: Shaun of the Sheep Movie: Farmaggedon
Movie That More People Should See: TIE: Quo Vadis, Aida? (Where are you, Aida?), The Mole Agent
Most Fun Re-watch: Robocop
Most Forgettable: NA -Nothing fits this category this month
Better Than I Remembered: The Cable Guy
Not As Good As I Remembered:
Field of Dreams
The movie I can finally cross off the Bucket-list: What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?
Best performance: Bette Davis, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?
Most Pleasant Surprise: Shaun of the Sheep Movie: Farmaggedon
Most Disappointing Movie:  Detachment
Best Movie: What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?

                1. Haha! You bet I do – Richard Patrick still releases Filter albums as far as I’m aware. Last album I actually bought was Title of Record way back. A good album. Short Bus was pretty decent too (the one Hey Man Nice Shot is from). I didn’t really keep up with them. Army of Anyone was a bit mnah… though better than the current Stone Temple Pilots (truth).

  1. You know for an “off” month, you watch more movies than I’d watch in a year lol! Congrats on getting your first shot of the covid vaccine, sorry you didn’t feel well afterwards though. Which one did you get?

  2. I went to the cinema for the first time since Rise of Skywalker. I don’t track everything I watch, but I also rewatched the prequels recently.

    1. Both are great flicks for different reasons. Where are you, Aida? is a bit by the numbers, but really captivating story of civilians during the Bosnian war. The Mole Agent is a documentary about the elderly in homes. Both are really important stories that I think more people should see.

  3. Sounds like we had a similar experience after the first shot, man. I was floored for 4 days, but definitely better than the alternative.

Anyhoo, some great stuff here. I watched My Octopus Teacher with the kids a few months back and was totally captivated. Quite brilliant. Chef is a really enjoyable flick… I totally forgot about that. News of the World is currently on my ever growing Netflix list!

    1. Yesterday was the first day in a week that I felt like myself for the entire day.

My Octopus Teacher was pretty good but I thought there were other nominated docs that were better. Sarah and I have had fish as pets for the past 20 years, so you get to know how they all have personalities.

News of the World is OK. Nothing to write home about.
