2021 continues to move a light speed for me. Here we are in April already! As for March, the Oscar nominees were announced making it heavy on the contemporary dramas. As I’ve said in the past, I enjoy the nomination process since it puts plenty of great films on my radar that I would not have watched otherwise. As for what wins, it is a total crap shoot!
Which of the noms did I like? Great question! A lot of homeruns this month! The answers are below…

Baseball time!
These are the “batting stats” compiled for the FIRST TIME watches. I give each movie a rating out of 5. 4.5 and up are home runs, 4s to 2.5s are hits, 2 and lower are field outs, an 0.5 (did not finish) is a Strike Out. This tells me how well of a job I’m doing at picking which movies to watch.

Home Runs: 5 –City On Fire, Onward, Captain Fantastic, Sound of Metal, The Father

I watched 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea last year when I got DisneyPlus. Hadn’t seen it since I was a kid. I found it a bit slow but I still enjoyed it very much.

That is where I watched it. I hadn’t seen it since I was a kid as well and all I remembered was the giant squid.

You know, I must have seen it at one point since I was a kid, because I remember a cynical mid-20s hatred of the “Whale of a Tale” song.

I want to see The Sound of Metal especially now that you gave it a 5.

Watched Unhinged a few months back. Your score of meh is bang on. Sound of Metal I will check out as well.

Seriously, I could not remember what Unhinged was when I saw it on the list. So, I put it down as the Most Forgettable. When Sarah read this post she asked me, “Which one is Unhinged?” lol, I think I got that one right.

I didn’t manage to finish Mank either and thought I was alone in that, heh. Looks like a month of great choices otherwise. Love Sound of Metal and City on Fire!

The reviews for Mank on letterbxd are all glowing so it will probably win best picture, lol. But it wasn’t for me, at all.

Sound of Metal is a movie that’s been on my radar for a while. I just watched the Little Ole Band From Texas.

Sound of Metal is great! I have some hearing problems so I could relate to a lot of it.

I started watching Coming 2 America, but gave up. No laughs after 40 minutes just wasn’t acceptable.

It is quite awful. I hung in for the whole thing for some reason.

It’s not often I give up on a movie completely – I tend to hang on… just so I can tick it off the list. I might go back and finish it, but I’m in no rush!

I give up on a movie about once or twice a month. No point in wasting my time if I’m not digging it.

Perfectly reasonable. In fairness, I don’t think I’ve seen to many that have made me what to quit.

Movies are so easily accessible now they are like a buffet. Get more of what you like and leave the stuff you don’t there for the people who do.

Man On Wire was awesome, and Away From Her was too. I’ve got my eye on Sound Of Metal, and UHF, well, I mean, c’mon!

When Sarah asks if I want to watch UHF the answer from me is always YES!
I think you would dig Sound Of Metal.

Yeah I wanna see it. I just committed to Hubner to watch There Will Be Blood, so this will be in the mix soon too.

You are pushing me towards ‘Captain Fantastic’ (I wonder if anyone got fooled and thought maybe they were catching a “Super Hero” flick?). A revisit for Bronson in ‘The Mechanic’.

Captain Fantastic has nothing to do with super heroes! I found it to be quite good and would absolutely want to know what you think of it.

It’s been on the radar. Viggo M usually makes pretty good choices on the films he does. You might have ben the push I needed to pull the trigger.
